I was recently contacted by a customer who has just returned from a lovely summer vacation in Quebec. She wanted to give a unique thank-you gift to her Canadian friends with whom she stayed, so she commissioned me to do a 9x12 "collage style" Quebec painting. I have not been to Quebec (yet), but all the beautiful photos of Canadian countryside that my customer has supplied as reference have certainly verified Quebec's placement on my "Must Visit!" list. From her photographs, I picked three subjects for a collage: sprawling lavender fields, an antique store (with its distinctive sign) that her friends own, and the waterfront white house where they live. Along with a puffy blue sky, I did my best to combine the three into a picturesque scene. My client seemed to be thrilled with the result; hopefully her Canadian friends will enjoy their gift as well! The painting was done in acrylics, on a frameless gallery-wrap style canvas.
